Mushrooms

Expect Unexpected.

Night. 2am. Zack is on the veranda.

— How many things can happen during a single day? – He is writing in his notebook.

The events where unfolding with pace and concentration of mushrooms after the rain. All of a sudden…

— You probably forgot what it means to have fun, – the boy tells him.

They are driving back from the apartment after an amazing sex. There the boy stood on his hands naked, under influence of both pot and poppers… They drove towards McDonalds.

McDrive. Two veggie burgers. One without cucumber. Next time we go to a veggie place my friend works, the boy says.

At the entrance to his place the boy kisses him on the lips before jumping out of the car.

— I kissed you in car – the boy giggles.

— Shameless, – Zack laughs.

On the veranda. Zack writes on…

— Call it whatever you want – it was a perfect date with both of them happy.

As for the start of the day…

The doctor. The clinic. First time that doctor speaks so open, positive and with care.

The x-rays. Radiation therapy. First session. Mum feels better.

They play Ticket-to-Ride at home. He wins.

What also happened is another sex with the strange young guy who invited him over to his strange place in the city centre but so high on the hill, the neighborhood so rural… Time travel. He felt afraid even. Any other day that event would be enough of an impression for the day. But it is so faded now.

Like mushrooms… Thoughts now mix. All are blended into one stance. That stance is being happy now with stress off… Like mushrooms… Events unfolded and culminated in absolutely unexpected  psychological stance.

Each event is a story of its own. It lives its own life. It’s part of a psyche of someone else and results in something else for them at the end of the day…

Like mushrooms… What a trip… He never tried any psychedelic mushrooms, but he felt that trip they have described to him was exactly the one he had just now… Like mushrooms… Most unexpected things happened.

Doctor speaking very attentively and with care…

Mum feeling better…

The strange boy at strange house in a strange place and the strange sex…

The night out with the boy with a smile, kissing good night…

— Yes, I forgot so many things that make me happy…

Mushrooms? In love? It all appeared all of a sudden, over few hours, effortless, weightless, like mushrooms that were dormant for centuries before under the ground, asleep but alive and waiting…

On the veranda. Reading about mushrooms. Now Zack comes across a paragraph about agaric mushrooms, poisonous but with some properties that are boosting immune system, even fighting cancer…

It all goes to stone age… Or before?.. To another civilization before the stone age?.. Or before to one more civic?.. Tribes of Siberia… Shamans… More and more and more – thousands of years ago… People keep forgetting… We are species with an amnesia… We forgot what makes us happy…

Sense of timelessness…

— It’s called Tiger, – the boy told him about the poppers… Was it that?.. What happened?..

Sense of timelessness…

Zack at his notes. When? Now? How? What happens? What happened?

All is calm, smooth, happy…

One more civilization. One more world. One more day and night…

Feels like a whole separate life though in these few hours… Feeling like Alice in Wonderland tasting the mushroom.

— Is it the mushroom though? Or is it the spirit that was dormant for the centuries and then inhaled?..

— Thank you, Tiger…

— Thank you, the boy with the smile… Thank you… All dots connected… And the gin is out of bottle, asking: what do you wish?

Be smart and careful with your wishes!.. – Zack hears.

He wishes timelessness – the stance of controlling the now, which is past and which is future… Just simple happiness now.

It just came, all of a sudden… From where? Why? Not knowing… Dangerous? What and how?… Not knowing is the stance…

Now. Night. Almost 3 am. Zack smiles and closes his notebook.

“Symbolically, the mushroom evokes unexpected manifestations of what is already proliferating in invisible dimensions… What “mushrooms” into conscious life?..”
